Something E rarely (if ever?) did as a baby was to wake up happy. He pretty much cried as soon as waking. I don't know if it was because he was hungry, or just needed immediate attention. A, on the other hand, has been somewhat the opposite. Only once in a while does he cry immediately on waking - I think he must have been having a bad dream, or is extremely hungry. We moved him to his crib for night bedtime on Friday night and he's done pretty well sleeping there. The first night he slept all the way through 'til morning (6 am). The last 2 nights he's woken up in the middle of the night, but will go back to bed after nursing. This morning, we heard him wake up (via the baby monitor) and he PLAYED in his bed for a long time. He kicked his feet and apparently moved all around (since I found him in a very different spot than I had left him in!). We heard the thumps on our bedroom ceiling from him kicking his mattress. It was very enjoyable to hear him wake up happy and "play" by himself for a while.
Nowadays, E also wakes up happy about 90% of the time. He zooms downstairs and trots down the hall to where I'm sleeping to wake me up. He's usually hungry or thirsty right away, and any crying or fussing happens when I don't take care of that fast enough.
